What has 52,000 eyes and ears, 26,000 cellphones, assists police catch criminals, mobilizes communities and reporters, finds missing people, guides tourist discreetly through South Africa and links its members to a family and community from a panic button on their cellphone.

We have all read about the two young women who were murdered in separate incidents in Knysna towards the end of last year.  Both had cellphones and if they had them set up as a panic button, they might have been alive today. Eblockwatch is a network of thousands of South Africa linked by cell phone and emails to a central database used to assist members and community unite against crime.

Eblockwatch prides itself for many arrests, recoveries of goods and missing children. Crime awareness and prevention in communities: being guardian angles to children, parents and tourists, giving families the peace of mind by allowing them to track family members from their cell phones and recycling valuable information supplied to eblockwatch by its ever increasing members.

How does the system work?   You become a member of eblockwatch, the crime busting internet website run by Andre Snyman assisted his network of 26,000 strong members situated in every corner of South Africa. Members collectively have the amazing power to mobilise a wave of response when requested. The bigger the network the more powerful it becomes and hopefully we can tilt the scales and turn South Africa into the real Rainbow Nation it should be.  All you have to do is go to www.eblockwatch.co.za and become a member free of charge.

To activate the panic button service for your daughter, son or a family member, get them to SMS 33930 and they will be prompted on what to do. R3 per sms. Panic buttons cost R18 per member per month. Any time they get into a situation of panic, they can activate the button from their cellphone.

What happens then?

The four nominated members receive your alert and are requested to contact you. If you are on Vodacom it supplies your location. If you on MTN it activates a distress call to your nominated family or friends. Members needing further assistance contact the police or the emergency services. Eblockwatch can further assist by mobilizing members nearest the incident if requested.

Eblockwatch believes that security starts by looking after your family then your neighbours then the community. Together we look after the country.
